Finding a sense of peace and calming through working with natural materials, Ping focused on wood as a medium, stating that ‘wood exudes warmth, and comfort and evokes back to where it came from—nature’.

Ping began his artmaking by focussing on creating functional objects. However, a sense that society has lost track of the beauty of nature, and its ability to calm people, led him to begin creating what he calls ‘useless objects’ inviting audiences to find the beauty in functionless furniture.

He believes that a piece of rubbish could be something that people haven’t found a way of using yet.
