Scottish music showcase comes to Smiths Alternative

Award-winning Scottish smallpipes player Brìghde Chaimbeul (Campbell) is currently touring Australia as part of The Year of Scotland 2020 showcase.

Richard spoke to Brigde Chaimbeul. The music is Tornala Maika, from her debut album The Reeling

The showcase, which began at the Woodford Folk Festival, will feature more than 150 of Scotland’s finest musicians, in some 300 shows across Australia during the year.

Brighde Caaimmbeul, who is from the Isle of Skye, won the 20126 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award and was the 2017 Scots Trad Music Awards ‘Up and Coming’ nominee.

She has also appeared in major festivals in Britain including Cambridge Folk Festival, Celtic Connections, Fairport’s Cropredy Convention, Piping Live and Wickham Festival, as well as TV appearances.

She performed at the recent Illawarra Folk Festival, and after her performance at Smiths Alternative, will go on to gigs in Melbourne and New Zealand.
